SO YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER??
Alright, so you're planning your wedding.. You've probably picked your venue, set your date, hired a wedding planner, and now you're looking for a photographer. There's definitely no shortge of photographers and it can be overwhelming trying to narrow down who you want to talk to, let alone who you want to hire. And at the end of your wedding night, your wedding photos are the only thing you'll have left to look back on so you're going to want to pick a photographer who you think will best capture those memories for you. So here's some tips to help you narrow down and pick the photographer that's right for you :)
Do you like their photos?
First things first, do you even like their photos? This is the most obvious question to ask yourself. Decide if you like photos that are light and airy, dark and moody or true to color. Are their photos too warm or too cool for your liking?Ask yourself.. could I imagine myself in their photos? Look at all types of photos, from portraits to detail shots to candids, and make sure you love them all. Do you like more formal photos or do you prefer candids... or maybe you want a combination of both? Art is so subjective and every photographer is different, but pay attention to the style, colors and emotions of the photographer's photos :)
Look at ALL of their work.
Ask to see some full wedding galleries and check out their blog (you can check out my blogs here)!
Social media is a highlight reel and any photographer can shoot at golden hour. You want to look at their work in different types of lighting situations and settings - hotel rooms, reception spaces, etc.
BUT if you don't see something in the galleries that you'd like to see at your wedding, keep in mind that every venue is different and every couple has different events and priorities. So if you feel something is missing from the gallery, it might not have happened and/or they might not have wanted it photographed!
Do they have back up plans if technology fails?
Ahhh, technology. It so wonderful yet it can be so dang frustrating sometimes. Make sure your photographer has a system in place to ensure they don't lose your photos!
Here's my system:
- I bring at least two cameras to every wedding or shoot in case a camera fails me
- When I'm shooting, the photos are recorded to two memory cards in case something happens to one
- Once I get home, I back up your photos to my computer AND three hard drives.
So your photos are safe with me :)
Do they pass the vibe check?
I 10000000% recommend looking for someone that you guys will both vibe with. Your photographer is going to be by your side pretty much your whole wedding day so if your personalities don't mesh.. your day won't be as fun! You want a photographer that you click with because they'll understand you better and bring out your personalities in your photos better than someone you don't vibe with :) Plus, when you're comfortable with your photographer, getting your photos taking is way more fun! And you guys are just trying to have the best day ever!!
